Dr. Wen Tang named the inaugural holder of the Arthur Burghes Professorship
Dr. Wen Tang, Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology, has been named the inaugural holder of the Arthur Burghes Professorship. This endowed professorship honors the extraordinary contributions Dr. Arthur Burghes, whose pioneering use of advanced genetic and biochemical approaches revealed the molecular mechanisms underlying Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a devastating genetic disorder. Dr. Burghes also played a pivotal role in developing a successful gene therapy for SMA—an achievement that has provided life-saving treatment for many children.
Dr. Tang was selected for this prestigious professorship in recognition of his innovative application of genetics and biochemistry to uncover fundamental mechanisms of small RNA processing, research that holds great promise for advancing human health. Congratulations, Wen!
