Undergraduate Summer Research Opportunities in RNA Biology

International Research Internship in France and Norway
One fellowship is available to provide a summer stipend to support an OSU undergraduate student who wishes to perform research in an RNA lab in France or Norway. The fellowship consists of a stipend of $5,000 plus $1,400 for travel.
Eligibility
- Students must be currently enrolled full-time at The Ohio State University and must have spent at least one academic semester performing research. Priority will be given to students who are carrying out research in the laboratory of a faculty member in the Center for RNA Biology.
- Students must be planning to graduate no sooner than the end of AU 2026.
- Students must be available for full-time research during at least 10 weeks of summer starting no later than May.
Students selected for this international research fellowship will be expected to attend the AU 2026 Rustbelt RNA Meeting and present a poster describing their summer research. They are also expected to attend Center for RNA Biology monthly seminar/collaborative lunch meetings during the 2026–27 academic year. Students will be expected to continue research in a CRB lab for the remainder of their time at OSU.

Center for RNA Biology Research Internships
Fellowships are available to provide summer stipend support to OSU undergraduate students working full-time in Center for RNA Biology (CRB) faculty member labs.
Applications were accepted until March 2, 2026, and decisions will be announced by April 1, 2026.
Five fellowship positions follow the eligibility criteria listed below. One additional fellowship (Daniel Schoenberg RNA Undergraduate Research Fellowship) will be awarded based on additional criteria detailed below.
Students interested in being considered for both the CRB fellowships and the Schoenberg fellowship should indicate this by checking the appropriate box on the application form when it is submitted.
Fellowships consist of a stipend of $5,000 to support the student's full-time summer work in their OSU lab.
Eligibility
- Students must be currently (as of SP26) enrolled full-time at OSU and must have spent at least one academic semester performing research in the laboratory of a CRB faculty member. The same CRB faculty member must agree to oversee the student's summer research project.
- Students must be planning to graduate no sooner than the end of AU 2026.
- Students must be available for full-time research during at least 10 weeks of Summer 2026 with a suggested start date of May 18, 2026. Students must also be available to participate in a poster session toward the end of their summer research fellowship. Enrollment in classes or other employment at OSU while supported by the fellowship is not permitted.

The Daniel Schoenberg RNA Undergraduate Research Fellowship
The Daniel Schoenberg fellowship was initially established in 2017 by a generous donation to The Ohio State University from the estate of Irene Schoenberg. This fellowship provides summer support for one outstanding undergraduate student who plans to pursue graduate studies in RNA research.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
In addition to meeting all eligibility criteria for the CRB summer fellowships listed above, candidates must also meet the following requirements:
- Candidates must have spent at least one year performing RNA research in the laboratory of a CRB faculty member.
- Candidates must be completing their third (junior) year of study.
